WELCOME TO UTD
BRAIN EXERCISE INITIATIVE
Join us in helping those struggling with Dementia regain the skills they need

WHO ARE WE?
We are the UTD chapter of BEI - Brain Exercise Initiative
BEI is a nationwide nonprofit program that aims to help seniors struggling with Dementia regain cognitive skills they may have lost due to their condition. We train and exercise their prefrontal cortex to enhance the patients ability to perform activities of daily living and improve communication skills with their nurses and fellow residents.

WHAT ARE BRAIN EXERCISES?
Studies show that certain activities activate the prefrontal cortex - the area of the brain that suffers damage in patients with Dementia.
ACTIVITIES
that do so include reading aloud and basic arithmetic
BLOOD FLOW
to the prefrontal cortex also increases by these activities. The effects of this have been further investigated in research studies conducted by Kyoto University
After witnessing the amazing effects of the brain exercises on the seniors' cognitive ability, many brain exercise programs arose in the U.S. in hopes of improving the lives of Dementia patients across the country - including BEI.
IMPROVEMENT
was seen in seniors involved in the 6 month brain exercise trials at Kyoto University. They were able to perform more daily activities and communicate much better with their nurses.
